- Part-Time HCI Research Associate in Collaboration Tools for Software Development – UBC Department of Computer Science, Vancouver CampusWe invite applications to the part-time position of Research Associate in HCI, CSCW, and Software Engineering (SE). Our research program focuses on building and evaluating novel collaboration systems that enhance the software engineering process. An ideal research associate should have expertise in methods of human-centered design and/or qualitative/quantitative evaluation, as well as a successful track record of publishing on at least one of the following topics:
- Collaboration tools
- Annotation tools
- Designing interactive systems
- (Optional but preferred) Software engineeringContext and Responsibilities: The successful candidate will join a research team led by Dongwook Yoon and Ivan Beschastnikh. The team bridges HCI and SE. We are part of a strong HCI research community, including the MUX-Lab and Designing for People Research Network at UBC (https://dfp.ubc.ca/), and the Software Practices Lab (https://spl.cs.ubc.ca/). The candidate will be expected to play a leading role in shaping and executing research projects and providing mentorship to undergraduates, Masters, and PhD students.The position will be a fully-funded one-year contract, renewable based on performance. Anticipated start date: October 1, 2021Qualifications
- PhD in Human-computer Interaction or related fields
- A solid track record of publications in top-tier HCI venues, such as ACM CHI, UIST, or CSCW
- Fluency in both written and spoken English
- Research background and publication record in Software Engineering venues, such as ICSE and FSE is preferredThe successful candidate is expected to participate fully in the supervision of the graduate students in the group, therefor the application should include demonstrated excellence of graduate supervision as well as strong communication and leadership skills.The UBC Department of Computer Science ranks among the top Departments in North America, with 63 tenure-track faculty and approximately 200 graduate and 2,000 undergraduate students.
