Research Associate Sunflower Tissue Cultivation

- A part-time Research Associate position (50%) is available in the Botany Department at The University of British Columbia. This position will manage a tissue culture lab and oversee various projects involving the development of cannabis and sunflower cell cultures.The successful applicant must have a PhD in Plant Biotechnology and a minimum two years of research associate training managing a sunflower tissue culture lab. Experience in tissue and cell culture, a broad range of pathogens, handling and plant propagation in vitro, disease resistance evaluation, as well as wet-lab work including next generation sequencing techniques is required. Expertise in medicinal plants is valued as well.The applicant must be skilled in molecular and cell biology and have proven ability in both developing new tissue and cell culture protocols and managing tissue and cell culture collection. The successful applicant must also demonstrate at least 2 years of recent tissue culture lab management experience as well as student recruitment/training experience.The successful applicant must also have demonstrated the capacity to publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Additional responsibilities include continued publication of research, mentoring undergraduate and graduate students, and assistance with the day-to-day training of other research personnel.Qualifications
- PhD in Plant Biotechnology, expertise in tissue and cell culture and at minimum 2 years of research associate training managing sunflower tissue culture lab
- skilled in molecular biology (wet-lab and basic bioinformatics)
- at least 2 years of recent tissue culture lab management experience as well as student training experience
